CHRISTMAS AT THE MARQ

2025-2026

Once again this year, with the LIGHTING OF THE TREE, MARQ congratulates all the people of Alicante and visitors to the city on the Christmas holidays.

Founded in 1932, the museum has a reputation for its pioneering approach and innovative audio-visual technologies, creating collections that are both educational and immersive.

The museum utilizes multimedia and interactive displays to enhance visitor engagement. There are spaces dedicated to the Iberian, Roman and Medieval periods where you can gaze at archaeological findings and vestiges that give us an insight into what life was like for our ancient ancestors.

The Lady of Guardamar is one of the most valuable pieces in the museum so make sure you look out for it during your visit.

MUSEU ARQUEOLÒGIC PROVINCIAL (MARQ)

Museo Arqueológico Provincial de Alicante, or MARQ for short, is an archaeological museum that showcases the wealth of the landscapes and monuments in the province. Similar to the Lady of Elche, the bust portrays an Iberian aristocratic woman, though some schools of thought believe it to depict a goddess.

Guided tours of the permanent collection are available as are living history tours that will get your little ones excited about what they’re seeing.

Lords and Ladies of the Earth is a tribute to all those men and women, kings, nobles, knights, ladies, artisans and artisans who founded our towns such as Pobla de Ifach in Calp or Cocentaina and Alcoy, founded by the House of Lauria, and who forged the traditions and festivities that we celebrate today, such as the Fira de Cocentaina, started during the mandate of Alfons Roger de Lauria, the admiral's grandson.

Exhibitions and Collections

MARQ’s permanent exhibitions span from Prehistory to the Modern Age, featuring artifacts from the Iberian, Roman, and Medieval periods.

Archaeology is absolutely fascinating; so come along to MARQ and be amazed by the pieces on display.

EXHIBITION IN THE FOYER OF THE MARQ

The exhibition presents the results of research carried out between 2007 and carried out between 2007 and 2021 by a team of specialists, within the framework of the the framework of the Cova del Randero Archaeological Excavation Project, in which, through the MARQ, the Diputación de la Randero, in which, through the MARQ, the Provincial Council of Alicante is involved, in close collaboration with the City Council of Alicante.

The exhibition explores the historical evolution of Alicante through its ancient settlements, including the archaeological site of Tossal de Manises. Both will accompany us, for about an hour, through the halls of the museum to show us the permanent archaeological collection of the MARQ from Prehistory to the Middle Ages.
